Anglican church. Perpendicular tower probably of C15, remainder
rebuilt in 1841 and north aisle added in 1870 by T.H. Wyatt.
Ashlar, stone slate roof with coped verges, saddlestones and cross
finials, with artificial stone slate on inner slopes. West tower,
nave with large south aisle and south porch, and small lean-to
north aisle, chancel with south vestry. Tower of 3 stages on
moulded plinth with stringcourses and stepped diagonal buttresses,
polygonal stairvice to north east, moulded embattled parapet with
crocketed corner pinnacles, weathercock to south west corner, and
flagstaff. Small single lights to second stage with sundial over
on south side, 2-light louvred belfry openings deeply recessed on
top stage. West face has Tudor arch doorway and 3-light above,
both with hoodmould and decorative stops. South aisle and nave
have large single trefoil-head lancets. Gabled south porch has a
decorative timber frame. Interior not accessible but said to
contain alabaster reredos by Powell, stained glass by Lavers,
Barraud and Westlake, and many fine monuments, both ledger stones
and wall tablets.
