House and 3 cottages attached with front walls. Mid C18,
altered and extended mid C19; C20 alterations. Herringbone
tooled sandstone with ashlar dressings; roof of pantiles and
concrete tiles with stone gable copings and stone chimneys.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 9-window range, arranged 2:3:2:2. No.151
taller; 6 panel door and overlight with glazing bars at right
under stone hood on stone brackets; plain sashes in C19
projecting square bay at left with stone mullions and flat
roof, and in window over door with projecting stone surround;
similar surround to 4-pane sash in window at left on first-
floor. Stone eaves gutter cornice and high blocking course.
Roof has pantiles with stone gable copings on altered pitch
with truncated triangular edge blocks; stone ridge has end
chimneys with cornices.
Left return has blocked window high at right and wood oriel on
first floor at left.
Houses set back at right in one terrace have lugged stone
surround to 6-panel door at centre of No.153 and renewed doors
at right of Nos 155 & 157, all with small overlights; stone
mullions to 3-light ground-floor windows with narrow sashes
and to single windows above doors and 2-light windows over
ground-floor windows.
Lower eaves with stone eaves gutter to roof of concrete tiles;
stone gable coping with block kneeler at right end, stone
ridge, corniced stone chimney at left of each house and right
end brick chimney.
To rear a gabled wing with former tall stair window now partly
blocked with C20 casement.
At rear, single light to each outhouse, stone lintel over
recessed door to yard of No.157. 3 inserted garage doors. C20
rear brick extensions to houses.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: in front, low stone wall breaking forward
from left end front of No.151 and curving in to right end of
No.153 has flat stone coping and square corner, intermediate
and gatepiers with wide corniced coping.
At rear high yard wall continues from rear wing gable and
rises at gables of monopitch rear outhouses to each house;
rounded coping between outhouses.
