Table tomb. c1903. Granite. Rectangular plan plinth with table
tomb having inscribed recessed panels, cornice and shallow
hipped lid. HISTORICAL NOTE: Herbert Spencer was a
philosopher, author, pioneer of sociology in Britain and
biological theorist, coining such phrases as "survival of the
fittest".
