II
War memorial. Circa 1922. Probably Portland stone. A tall, monolithic Ionic column set upon a square plinth. It stands on four shallow steps. A bronze or brass plaque on the north face of the plinth is inscribed: 'TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF YATTON / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 / (name and regiment)'. Plaque to west side reads: `TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN HONOUR OF THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THIS PARISH / WHO FELL IN THE WAR OF 1939-1945 / (surname and regiment for those on war service; name of those killed by enemy action)'.
HISTORY: Designed by the Reverend F.E. Peert and unveiled on 22nd July 1922 to commemorate the men of the parish who were killed in the First World War. Further inscriptions were added to those who died in the Second World War.
