21/101 Straining well and
Valve House

II

Straining well and valve house for Thirlmere Reservoir. 1885-1894 by G.H. Hill
(engineer), for Manchester Corporation Waterworks Committee. Coursed slate
nibble walls, with red sandstone dressings and battlemented parapets. Circular
tower with lower double rectangular valve house structures, forming overall
V-shape. Mock castle-like building with plain openings and slit vents.
