Description

Fragments of medieval (probably 13th century) chapel, part
incorporated in 18th/early 19th century cottages.
CHAPEL: Gothic; fragments comprise only part of E and of W
gable, former incorporated by cottages. Rubble-built with red
ashlar dressings; free-standing W gable, window with moulded
arch and originally with 3 pointed lights; taller E gable
with blocked doorway.
COTTAGES: single storey; 5 (originally 3) bays; chapel
fragment serves as W gable; all rubble-built and whitewashed
ith contrasting painted margins; sash windows with 4-pane
glazing; S elevation: original door now a window; timber
porch to right in addition; stonework and smaller window left
(beside chapel) suggests earlier fabric incorporated. End
stacks; slate roof. Modern rear (N) addition.

Statement of Interest

W gable window of chapel is surprisingly low in relation to the height of the E gable, and the doorway in the E gable is unusual.
