II

Detached house, now two cottages. Mid to late C17, with C19 and
C20 renovation and sub-division. Dressed limestone with some
timber-framing to first floor, tiled roof with brick stacks. Gable
end to street, L-plan. East front has 2 storeys and attic, 4
windows. Two C20 glazed doors, to right are two 3-light casements,
one inserted into a blocked door. First floor has a lunette and
one single casement in timber-framing to left, with 2-light
casement and one elliptically-arched window with fanlight to right,
attic has two C19 gabled dormers. Projecting wing to left has two
latticed casements to ground and first floors, right return has 3-
light chamfered mullioned window to ground floor and one gabled
dormer to attic. Right return is gable on street, with one 2-light
recessed chamfered mullioned window to first floor and one casement
in tile-hung attic. Rear is probably former front of 2 storeys and
attic, 3 windows. To left is fixed window and 2-light chamfered
mullioned window, in centre is blocked door and 2-light chamfered
mullioned window, first floor has 2-light mullioned window, timber-
framed central part with 2-light casement. To right of straight
joint is late C17 wing of 2 storeys with basement and attic, with
3-light casement to basement, ground and first floors, all with
relieving arches, attic has 2-light casement with stone tablet
incised with AWM / 1677 over. Left return of wing, from front, has
conservatory attached to ground floor with half-glazed doors to
left and right, and one 3-light chamfered mullioned window to
ground and first floors.
Interior has chamfered beams with ogee stops to south wing and
chamfered beams with runout stops to main range, north range has
original oak panelled doors with strap hinges. Timber-framed first
floor consists of mostly renewed timbers. Intials on south west
gable refer to Woodville family.
