4/92 Coal Tax post at junction
with Bridge Way

Coal and Wine tax post. Circa 1861. Made by Henry Grissell. Metal. Circa 4 foot
high. Four legged plinth with chamfered pier above. Moulded capital band and
pyramidal top. City of London shield cast on the front. Lettering on the pier
reads "ACT/24 & 25 VICT/CAP 42" on correcting plate. A Coal and Wine tax post
indicating the boundary at which duty was payable; that on coal dating back
to the 1660's.
