C16 timber framed cottage now covered in early C19 and later red brick. Some
chalk rubble in left lower wall and wall of left lean-to. High pitched tiled
roof, rebuilt end chimneys. 2 storeys, 4 windows, irregular, on west front and
a 1-storey pent projection at right. East front partly covered by later adjoining
house; roof here renewed in modern concrete tiles. C19 and modern casements.
Inside much exposed timber. 1 fine room with chamfered beam and joists. Evidence
of early smoke bay, chimney inserted in it. Old square headed doorway with simple
moulding and original iron hinge pins now blocked behind other house. Inglenook
with bread oven, part of salt box. Carpenters' marks on stout timbers with big
braces. Some re-used timber in partitions upstairs.
