Farmhouse, including attached dairy, brewhouse, apple room and cottage. Early C18,
altered and extended to the south c1840. Built of Isle of Wight stone rubble with
slate roof. Comprises very long 2 storey northern part comprising dairy,
brewhouse, apple room and separate cottage and a farmhouse of higher elevation at
the southern end. South front of farmhouse has 3 windows, one of which is a 3
light splayed bay through both floors with stone surrounds and keystone. The
others have keyed surrounds. Porch with 2 centred arch in angle. 4 panelled door,
the top 2 panels glazed. East or garden front of farmhouse has a 2 storey 3 light
splayed bay, the ground floor of which is ashlar. C19 casements with hood
moulding and French windows on ground floor. Outline'of former tinted verandah
visible. Rest of east elevation comprising dairy, brewhouse and apple room has 7
early C18 window surrounds with stone architraves and keystones with C19 casements.
West elevation has farmhouse projecting to south end with 3 windows and obtusely
pointed doorcase and cottage projecting to north side with 2 casements with keyed
surrounds and left side doorcase with keystone and plank door. Interior of
farmhouse has staircase with stick balusters and mahogany handrail of early C19
type, marble fireplace on ground floor, 1st floor wooden fireplace with iron
firegrate and early C19 fireplace with shell, floral, grape, sweetcorn and
anthemion motifs. Service end of house has C18 wooden winder staircase. Wootton
Manor is one of the Domesday Manors. A building is shown on the site in a pre-
1756 map of the farmstead which mentions the number of persons living there as 19.
