Shop, house, and part of doctors' surgery. Early C16 with C19 alterations. 2
storeys, 3 windows. Timber-framed with exposed arch-braced close-studding to
left. A small part of the original jettied upper-floor is still unaltered; a
bressumer with trailing leaf carving on joist-ends on brackets, these supported
by pilasters with crenellated capitals and carved shafts. One shaft has
trailing leaf, the other possibly bay-leaf carving. At the left hand end is a
C16 parapet gable of red brick, mainly painted, with moulded brick corbelling
at the 1st floor and eaves, and crow-stepping with a later diagonally-set
square chimney at the apex. The front wall to right rebuilt in C19 painted
brickwork. Plaintiled roof with rare survival of 6 ridge tiles crested with
animal and human figures of C16 type. Gabled C19 dormers. C19 splayed bay
shop window to the Old Gift Shop. C19 6-panelled door with oblong fanlight to
No. 6. Good un-moulded timber-framing exposed internally.
