12/92, 13/92 Garden walls to The Old
Rectory

Garden walls. c.1690. Limestone rubble. Wall is approximately 3 metres high,
with a rendered tapering rubble coping, and surrounds the garden, to south, and
the courtyard, to north, of The Old Rectory (q.v.), the circuit being completed
by the Tithe Barn range (q.v.). The entrance from The Walk has C20 gatepiers and
wrought-iron gates brought from Ireland. An original pedestrian entrance from
the south (Mill Street) is now blocked. The Old Rectory was built 1689-90 for
Dr. Robert South, and a late C17 engraving shows the garden walls.
