Manor house, now 2 houses. Possibly C15, remodelled late C17/early C18.
Limestone rubble with some ashlar quoins; old plain tile roofs with brick
stacks. 2-unit through-passage plan with cross-wing. 2 storeys. Main range
(Manor House) has central door with C20 2-storey canted bay window to left,
and C18 sash to right under a C20 timber bay-window. One-storey range to
right. Cross-wing to left (Campion Cottage) has altered openings at the front.
Rear of main range has an early C18 sash and some 3-light casements. Return
wall of cross wing has 2-light casement and a double-boarded plank door with L-
hinges. Large clustered stack at junction of roofs. Interior: Ground floor of
cross-wing has intersecting beams of tapering section moulded with double
concave chamfers and forming a coffered ceiling. There are indications that the
wing originally extended forward of the present front, although the present 4-
bay range may now extend further at the rear. Mouldings indicate a range of at
least 4 bays, possibly C15. At first floor there are traces of posts in the
walls and the trusses have been altered. The central shared stack has been
inserted, probably in the early C18. The main range has a similar moulded beam
spanning the through-passage but this could be re-used. It is possible that at
least the cross-wing was originally timber framed. Shown on the 0.S. sheet as
Manor House.
