House, now art gallery in row. Late C19. Local stone rubble with Doulting stone dressings; high pitch stone slate roof
with plain gables, tall red brick end chimney stacks. 2 storeys with attic, 3 bays. Curved end bay windows to bays 1
and 3, set on ashlar plinths, fin-de-siecle character, flanking wide doorway with flat Doric pilasters supporting
timber entablature and shell door hood on brackets; stone string over, curved round hood; above, central 12-pane sash
window flanked by angled double-sash bay windows probably earlier C19; in roof 4 small pitched roof dormers with
casement windows: wrot iron bracket for hanging sign on right of building. Interior not seen. Cellars said to be of
medieval date. Formerly the Kings Arms Inn, by 1850 the property was 2 shops, and about 1890 it was converted into a
house for Dr Stockwell. (Couzens P, Bruton in Selwood, Abbey Press, Sherborne, 1972).
