5/211 Higher Woolminstone Farmhouse

II

Detached farmhouse. C17, some modifications. Ham stone roughly cut and squared, with
parts in near-ashlar, ashlar dressings; thatched roof with half-hip to west, stepped
coped gable to east; brick chimney stacks. Single-storey with attics, 3 bays. Say
1 has a 3-light ovolo-mould mullioned window in wave-mould recess with label, and above
a 3-light rectangular leaded casement of early pattern set into thatch, having an iron-
framed opening light. Bay 2 has a 3-light small-pane casement; bay 3 has a 3-light
hollow-chamfered mullioned window in chamfered recess with label, rectangular-leaded.
Between bays 1 and 2 a boarded door on heavy frame, up 3 steps, in recess with timber
lintol over; the change from near-ashlar to rougher work occurs to right of doorway.
East gable has small triangular-headed stairlight and a leaded casement window; west
gable has 2 early pattern rectangular-leaded casements with iron-framed opening lights;
2-light below and 3-light above, both with timber lintols. Further mullioned windows
to rear. Interior not seen, but apparently a cross-passage 2 room plan, possibly little
altered.
