CASTLE GREEN (East Side),
Castle Hotel

4.6.52.

II GV

Originally had a frontage to North Street. The Castle Green frontage was at one time Clarke's Hotel. Main stone front to Castle Green is probably late C18, with a bowed crenellated wing at north end. Upper storey is a C20 addition. Rubble with ashlar dressings. Stringcourses. 2 and 3-light windows with mullions and transoms. Leaded casements. The north wing (and Castle Bow) with pointed sash windows and 'Gothic' glazing bars. The central 7 window range is said to have been similarly windowed. Projecting porch with crenellated parapet on entablature with 4 octagonal shafts. Double wooden doors to entrance.

All the listed buildings on Castle Green form a group together with Ina Cottage, Mill Lane.
