House, now house pair. C16 extended and altered especially e.Cl9. Timber
framed and rendered, with exposed frame to rear of large panels, with plaster
infill. Plain tiled roof. Two storeys, with 3 right hand bays with
continuous jetty, with hipped roof and stacks to left and to right. Six
wooden casements on first floor, and wooden casement to left, central and
end right glazing bar sashes and centre right large canted bay on ground
floor. Half-glazed door to left and boarded door to right. Single storey
extension to left with slate roof and wooden casement. Rear outshot of
red and blue chequered brick. A manorial centre, gave rise to medieval
Upton family, and home of Philipott family until t.HVII; "neatly fitted up
in the cottage stile" in Hasted's time (vol. IX, c.1800).
