Dated 1904. Architect Anthony Rowse for his brother. An early brick built Arts
and Crafts house of distinctive Birmingham type. Two storeys and attic, asymmetrical
elevation. Steep tiled gable end roof with tall slightly tapered chimney stacks.
Gabled bay of 2 1/2 storeys with 2 storey staircase bay and porch in same plane but with
flat coping above stair window concealing roof and raised in miniature gable above
date plaque and shallow chamfered return to lower right hand wing with overhanging
eaves. The porch rises level with first transom of stair window with a chequer band
of stone and tilework and plain stone coped parapet from the chamfered angle returned
wall of wing. The doorway itself is round arched and relatively low with flush
ashlar rustication and a semi-circular corbelled stone hood. Shallow panelled door
also round headed. The stair window is stone framed and mullion transomed and there
is a small lobby window also stone dressed set low beneath it on the ground floor.
Both have tile on edge bands above lintels. The left hand gabled bay has a canted
bay window with rosette studded valance. Leaded casements set in shallow flush
frames to upper floors. The right hand wing has small leaded canted oriel to first
floor and a 3 light mullion-transom window to the ground floor. All windows retain
decorated wrought iron latches. Interior unaltered with restrained mouldings and
door furniture. Tall proportioned fireplaces, with panelled over mantel and peacock
green tiles in drawing room and with flanking high set slender columns in the dining
room. Simple dog leg staircase of stained oak with octagonal tapering capped
newels only decorated with small diamond marquetry. Unusually extensive internal
ventilation system with grilles in hall and all main rooms.
