Directional signpost. Early C19, and associated with the Radcliffe Moor Turnpike Trust established in 1836. Low stone post, triangular in section,and painted white. The 2 outward faces carry carved inscriptions and images of pointing hands; that to the left reads 'Radcliffe/To Manchester/to Blackburn', that to the right 'To Bury/to Harwood and Bolton'. An early C19 signpost of vernacular quality which pre-dates the manufactured street furniture of the mid-C19 and later.
