House, once 3 or more dwellings, now 2. Mid to late C17, part refronted,
altered and extended C19. Timber frame, brick casing and additions, all
whitewashed and rendered. Tiled roof. 5 windows. 1 storey and attic.
Brick front to left 3 bays. Ground floor: paired entrances to left of
centre, three 3 light lattice casements to centre and left, all in
reveals with slightly cambered heads. To right a central entrance,
panelled door with upper leaded glazing, hood on ornamental iron
brackets, to left a 2 light lattice casement, to right 3 lights with a
cambered head, flush frames, four 3 light latticed gabled dormers. In
place of 5th dormer to right of centre is a 2 light flush frame casement
just below eaves. Red brick ridge stack between 2 left bays. Left end
brick faced with a ground floor casement. Right end single light
casement. To rear 5 C19 2 storey gabled wings, altered openings, each
with a cross axial stock brick ridge stack, one to right of centre
close to main ridge. C20 flat roofed entrance outshut to right.
Interior: C17 brick fireplace, chamfered binding beams and cambered
tie beams in No. 40. No. 42 not inspected.
