Facade C18 but incorporates an earlier timber framed building. Front facade red
brick, Flemish band. Old tiled roof. 2 storeys, 5 windows casements, those of
1st floor with segmental arched casements under flat brick arches, ground floor
windows with segmental arches. Symmetrical design with centre doorway which has
reproduction doorcase and another in northern side facade.
South side of rear facade lower and timber framed (part now tile-hung). 1 ground
floor casement and 1 small 1st floor window. Northern part of rear facade red
brick with grey headers. 3 windows, 1 dormer. Modern conservatory along ground
floor. The building also has historical interest in that it was the residence
from circa 1784 till his death in 1812 of Samuel Jellicoe, the partner of Henry
Cort at Funtley Iron Mills nearby. (Cart was the inventor of the rolling mill
and the puddling furnace which were of importance for the production of iron during
the Napoleonic Wars. Some of his inventions were tried out at these mills, of
which little remains other than the Mill-house.
