The walls are now very fragmentery but traceable throughout their length.
Dating from C13 they were repaired in 1376 and in C15. Limestone rubble.
The best stretch, to full height complete with battlements, is the south-east
corner. On part of their course the walls are shared by the City, Wolvesey
Palace, the Cathedral Close and Wolvesey Castle. Two gates remain, Westgate
(See High Street) and Kingsgate (St Swithun Street): both are Scheduled
Ancient Monuments. (See also the CLOSE BOUNDARY WALLS).
