Wind pump. 1912. By Smithdale of Acle. Brick. Battered
circular tower with remains of weatherboarded cap. 3 storeys.
2 opposing ground-floor doorways under segmental heads. 2
window openings at first-floor level. Cap frame with sheers,
tail beam, sprattle beam, headstock and cast-iron weatherbeam.
Cast-iron bearers to cap circle and remains of weatherboarded
petticoat. Worm and cast-iron wormhangers. Set of truck and
centering wheels in combined casings. Complete curb and rack
in 2-piece casting. Fan stage, fanframe and fan spindle and
gears including capstan wheel. Striking rod Y-wheel and
carrier. Cast-iron windshaft, neck bearing block and
brakewheel with brake collar and cast-iron brake arm.
Cast-iron wallower, timber upright shaft, cast-iron crown
wheel, pitwheel and horizontal drive shaft to external scoop
wheel. The building represents the final development of the
East Anglian wind pump.
