House. C17 with mid-C18, mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations and additions.
Part timber-framed with painted brick infill, refacing and replacement
walling, part sandstone with painted and rendered brick additions; plain
tiled roofs with moulded bargeboards and pendant finials; parapet and
stack at east gable end. Probably two framed bays aligned east/west with
rebuilt large chimney and rear stack at original west end; later additions
at each end and also three north wings forming present entrance front.
Two storeys with single storey and attic north wings; C18 walling has two-
course band between storeys. Framing: in south elevation some wall-framing
survives, four panels from sill to wall-plate but mainly only two rows of
panels at first floor level with short straight lower corner braces.
North front elevation formed by three gable ends of north wings; the left
gable end is set back from the central and right gable ends; there is a
16-pane and a 12-pane sash with cambered heads on the ground floor and a
6-pane, an 8-pane and a 9-pane sash at attic level, (the 8-pane and the
9-pane sashes have cambered heads); main entrance in left gable end has a
lean-to C20 porch and 6-panelled door, the upper panels of which are glazed
Interior: some wall-framing visible, and also some original sandstone walling
about 18 inches thick (possibly once part of an out-building) the roof of the
original part retains two collar and tie-beam trusses, its purlins and a large
swept windbrace.
