House or inn, now a house. Early C18 exterior to an older building,
early C19 rear extension and entrance screen. Red brick chequered with
grey headers, N end and rear in painted stucco, plum brick screen with
stone coping. Wooden cornice to steep hipped slate roofs. A 6-windows
long, 2-storeys and cellar building on the street front, facing E. Front
assymetrical with stucco plinth, brick plat-band, bracketed eaves
cornice, entrance up 3 stone steps below 3rd window from N end, and an
extra wider entrance up 3 stone steps at S end of front. Flush box sash
windows with 6/6 panes under segmental gauged arches on both floors.
Main door has semi-circular fanlight and fluted pilasters supporting a
full entablature with triangular open pediment, panelled reveals to
half-glazed early C19 flush-beaded door. Coloured glass leaded panels. S
entrance has half-glazed early C19 double doors with flush-beaded
panels, moulded architrave and rectangular fanlight. The brick front
appears to be of one build but the 2nd window from S end on 1st floor is
emphasised by a broad projecting brick surround and apron. Stucco
Gothick garden front to rear has cusped bargeboards and 2-light casement
windows with triangular pointed heads. Long rear wing at SW. Interior
said to have wall-painting concealed by hessian wall covering in ground
floor NE room. 3M high segmental in-bowed brick screen wall adjoins on N
with boarded double gates and square brick piers with stone cappings.
