1856 former workhouse complex, red brick, slate and modern concrete tile roofs. Y-plan with terminating blocks. Entrance block at foot of Y, set back within courtyard, flanked on east by single storey lodges. These have hipped roof centres of three semi-circular headed sash windows. Entrance block: three storeys, five windows, all arch-headed, partly vertical sash, partly with bottom-hung ventilators. Central door with cornice on concoles. Low hipped roof with exposed rafters on projecting eaves.Dentil cornice. Central louvre with iron weathervane and fox motif. Legs of Y also three storeys with similar window and eaves treatment. Other terminal blocks similar to entrance, but four windows. Adjoining south terminal block on east side is original, single-storey casualty cell block. Eight windows with original, iron opening gear intact on south side.
