House. Late C17 S range, early C18 N range, cased in brick in 1880's.
Timber frame, cased in red brick with chamfered plinths, buttress at SE
corner and yellow brick band at floor level. Steep old red tile
half-hipped roofs with bellcast at S eaves. A long and spacious 2
storeys internal chimney plan house facing S with gable to the road at
W, enlarged by a parallel 2-storeys N range with staircase, kitchens,
and W parlour with cellar under. Hall in middle of S range with large
room (possibly originally 2 rooms in line) to E beyond chimney against
front wall. Wide entrance hall with staircase at W of hall with a large
2-bay parlour at W end with early C19 inserted chimney on E wall. S
front 5 windows long with recessed sash windows under segmental arches
with 8/8 panes. Centred C19 bay windows to hall and E parlour and screen
with side-lights to entrance door. Similar small-paned sash windows one
to each floor in each part on W end to road. Timber frame exposed inside
with unjowled posts, straight tension braces, clasped-purlin
collar-truss roof, chamfered and stopped axial beams and squared joists.
Face-halved bladed scarf joints in wallplates of S range. Large open
fireplace in hall with ogee stopped chamfer to lintel. Plastered but
unlit attic room to W of chimney. Called Painter's Farm for sometime in
C20.
