Pair of houses, now flats and attached railings. c1830-60.
Stucco over brick with concealed roof, ridge and end stucco
stacks with cornices on consoles and iron railings and
balcony.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and basement, 6 first-floor windows with
set-back 2-storey entrance bays to either side. Stucco
detailing includes horizontal ground-floor rustication
surmounted by first-floor band and quoins to angles; tooled
architraves to first- and second-floor windows with panelled
aprons to first floor and sills on feet to second floor;
crowning frieze and cornice to main and side ranges, low
parapet with panels to side ranges. 1/1 and 2/2 sashes.
Entrances, flight of steps with panelled stucco flanking walls
to 4-panel doors with fanlights with tooled arches over and
imposts with acanthus keystones. Returns have canted
full-height bays and round-arched staircase windows, 6/6
sashes with radial glazing to heads.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: ground-floor balcony has ornate balusters
between stucco plinths; area railings to returns have
X-motifs.
An identical design to Nos 54 and 56 London Road (qv).
Group value with Nos 3-19 (odd) and 4-18 (even) Sydenham
Villas Road (qqv).
