22/10/71 The Priory and Treaford House
II
Pair of semi-detached Gothic villas, now offices and flats.
c1830-50. Stucco over brick with slate mansard roofs and end
stacks.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with basements and attics, 8 first-floor
windows, 4 per house arranged 3:2:3, those to centre are set
back. Stucco detailing includes pilaster strips to either side
of central windows of main range and end octagonal piers, all
with castellated finials. Main ranges have 3-light windows
with 4-centre-arched heads in straight-headed, moulded
surrounds with hoodmoulds, the central first-floor window to
each house has 4-centred arch and cusped lights, with mainly
2/2 sashes, those to ground floors with margin-lights;
projecting castellated central porches with lozenge friezes
and end pinnacles; 4-centre-arched openings, within are
4-panel, part-glazed double doors and 6-panel door with shaped
overlights. Parapet with turret pinnacles. Joining bays have
drip moulds, those to left have mullion windows, those to
right have sashes. Attic roof dormers have 3/3 sashes. Low
parapet.
INTERIOR: Treaford has open-well staircase with stick
balusters with wreathed handrail; embellished plaster cornices
with Gothic details.
