SS 70 SE CREDITON HAMLETS

2/55 Bewsley Cottage

II


House, formerly 2 cottages. C17, modernised and remodelled in C20. Plastered cob
and exposed rubble; rubble stacks topped with C20 brick; thatched roof. Much-
altered pair of cottages facing south. Front lateral stack to right cottage and
axial stack to left. 5-window front of C20 casements with glazing bars. Roughly
central door with C20 glass-sided porch with gabled thatched porch. 2 first floor
windows in the central section of exposed stone have eyebrows over. To right
lateral stack projects from wall and large oven projection has thatched roof.
Window immediately right blocks former door to right cottage. Plastered section at
left end is C20 addition. Interior much altered but some early plain carpentry
survives and entrance hall room has early C17 beam, chamfered with step stops.
