SS 72 SE BISHOP'S NYMPTON

6/6 Former forge about 70 metres west
- of Ball Ham Farmhouse

Forge, in use as outbuilding at time of survey (1987). Probably a late C19
remodelling of an earlier forge. Stone rubble, whitened to the front; slate roof,
gabled at ends; rear right stack with C19 brick shaft, right end wall cob indicating
an earlier structure.
Plan: Rectangular on plan, sited at Cott Cross crossroads, Ash Mill.
Exterior: The front elevation has large double doors to the left with a timber lintel
and a smaller doorway to the right, also with a timber lintel. The left return has
one smaller and one larger window with red brick dressings.
Interior: Not inspected.
Group value with Ball Ham, formerly the blacksmith's house.
