Description

SJ 37 SE SAUGHALL C.P. PARKGATE ROAD
(East Side)

4/26 Gibbet Windmill
(formerly listed as
Gibbet Mill).

4/6/1952 II

Formerly a windmill, now a house: later C18 with renovations,
extensions and conversion to house 1960 for the Parker family. Washed
English bond brick with weather-boarded and shingled cap. 3-storey
and loft over basement. Tall tapering brick tower with 2-light
casements with glazing bars, partly inserted and partly using original
openings. The set of sails are copies of the originals; but
shortened, and do not rotate. To the south is a 1-storey Welsh slate
roofed C20 extension and the basement has been converted into a
garage.
Interior: Massive partly shaped post runs up through the tower. Loft
contains a large cast-iron shaft on square wooden framework.
