Originally one house. Probably C17. Plastered cob walls, thatched roofs, brick
stacks. Of three-room and cross-passage plan, No. 3 comprising the 'lower end' and
cross-passage, and No. 4 the 'hall' and 'inner room'.
One storey and attics. No. 3 has ledged door with glass panel in thatched timber
porch. Ground floor has one casement window with cast iron lights. Attic has one
dormer with casements. Single-storey wing at rear - probably originally a dairy or
pantry - now a kitchen. Cob walls and thatched roof. Main ground floor room -
original kitchen - has large open fireplace with oak lintel. Inserted bread oven on
one side, curing chamber on other. Chamfered beams in ground floor ceilings.
Garage building belonging to this house, at rear of Piper's Cottage (q.v.).
Probably early C19 origin and appears to have been an open shelter shed. Brick and
cob walls. One side originally open with brick piers, now infilled with concrete
block. Thatched roof. Modern garage doors at south end.
No. 4 has ledged door. Ground floor has one casement window with cast iron lights,
and one later timber casement. Attic has one dormer wih casements. Rear wall
buttressed. Fireplace in original hall, backing on to cross-passage, has one jamb
of stone, corbelled out at top to carry lintel. Stairs west of stack, probably in
original position, lit by small window. Chamfered beam in ground floor ceiling.
Inner room unheated. Modern outbuildings in garden at rear.
