11/96 The Chequers
II
Coaching inn, original C17 timber-framed three unit plan cased
in gault brick in early C19 with low pitch modern tile roof.
Later C19 single 'bayed', one storey and attic extension to east
and low service range to west of plastered clunch, flint, and
painted brick, both with red pantile roofs. Original building
two storeys with moulded wooden eaves cornice. Three first
floor recessed twelve-paned hung sash windows in segmental brick
arches. Similar arches to four, sixteen-paned, ground floor
hung sash windows. Half glazed door with reeded wooden
architrave right of centre. Range to east has one four-paned
hung sash window and one flat roofed dormer window. Range to
west has hipped roof, two casement windows and one four-paned
hung sash window; half-glazed door.
