Hannett's Cottage

II

Formerly 2 cottages now one. C17 with mid C19 front and some C2O
alterations. Partly small timber framing with brick nogging to sides
and rear, washed pinkish red brick in English garden-wall band to
front. Welsh slate roof and 3 brick chimneys. One storey, 5-bay
front. Cottage to left has 3 bays with 2-light wooden casements under
rough-brick segmental heads flanking 5-board door under similar head.
Cottage to right has a 5-board door to right, 3-light casement with
glazing bars under a brick label mould to left. Smaller brick exten-
sion to right. Above each cottage is a gabled dormer with exposed
timber framing. To left side exposed timber framing shows a passing
brace and a collar and tiebeam truss. Interior: Massive central brick
fireplace, some chamfered ceiling beams. Spiral wooden staircase in
cottage to right. Attached by a brick wall to the left end is a domed
brick oven with remains of a cast-iron door. Below is a firebox with
a sandstone lintel, the flues curving round the oven to a brick
chimney above.
