Description

SD 94 SE SUTTON COLNE ROAD (off)
5/96 (south side)

Crag End Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse, perhaps early C17 (deeds from 1612). Ashlar with stone slate roof. Two
storeys and 2 bays. The windows are all double chamfered with stone mullions. That
to ground floor is of 6 lights, with transom and king mullion. A hoodmould runs over
it and the doorway to right, which has a Tudor arch and a stopped moulding to jambs
and head. Above are a 5-light and a 2-light window, with a similar hoodmould.
At rear are two 2-light windows of the same kind to the first floor. Inside there are
no surviving features of interest.
The walling and detail of this house, as well as its height, suggest either a C19
rebuilding or that it was once larger.
