(Formerly Listed as:
CHURCH STREET, Upwey
(East side)

GV II

School house, now cottage. Early C19. Rubble, thatch roof. A
long triple unit, probably formed by joining 2 earlier small
cottages; set gable-end to and back from the street.
One storey and attic. All windows are C20 replacement
casements. There are 2 eyebrow dormers in the first section, a
mid-roof dormer in the lower centre section, and the end
section. Ground floor has 3-light casements to segmental
heads, and a plank door with a thatched hood. In the centre
section is a large pair of French doors and a 2-light
casement. The gable to the road is heavily buttressed, and has
an external stack; there are 2 further small brick ridge
stacks.
The rear, with some C20 extensions, has one earlier casement
with a characteristic wood lintel with stopped chamfered edge.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: this was the school house to the former
school building immediately to the north (No.24, qv).
