Pair of estate cottages, 1870's, for 1st Duke of Westminster, probably
by John Douglas. Brown brick with projecting bands; steep red tile
roofs. Symmetrical 1½ storey cottages with central shared dormer
above pentice-roofed porch of shaped tiles, flanked to each side by a
projecting front gable with pargetted diamond and rectangular panels
(edged in brick) with formalised floral patterns. Two tall brick
chimneys with strongly corbelled caps. Shaped tile-hanging to dormer,
upper part of left gable and rear gables. Projecting eaves with
shaped purlin ends and slender exposed rafters. Iron casements with
leaded glazing in arched mullioned lights of moulded brick. Framed and
braced doors with diagonal boarding and 2 small glazed panels.
Single storey outbuildings (with lofts in roofs) of brick with
timber-framed gables and red tile roofs, grouped picturesquely at back
of cottages.
