ST 78 SW YATE CHURCH ROAD (west side)

7/271 Watkins Chest Tomb, 3 yards
south east of south transept of
G.V. St. Mary's Church

Chest tomb. Possibly James Watkins, died 1785, although perhaps an earlier
tomb. Limestone ashlar. Square panels with enriched sides; 'lyre shaped'
ends. The chest tombs represent a good collection of local and classical tomb
forms and contribute greatly to the setting of the church.
