Morris Oak Cottages

II

2 substantial houses, c.1875, (now converted to 3), by John Douglas
for 1st Duke of Westminster as upper servants' dwellings.
Stone-dressed red brick; red tile roofs. Symmetrical, 'U' shaped 1½
storeys, in a free Jacobean style. Stone and moulded brick bands;
ornate moulded brickwork with stone spirelets to gables and dormers.
2 symmetrically placed stone-capped moulded brick chimneys. 2 large,
ornate, brick dormers are flanked on each side by gables on south
(garden) front. Cast iron casements in stone mullioned openings:
leaded glazing survives in bedroom windows to front and some side
windows. 2 recessed porches with moulded stone surrounds contain
9-panel oak doors with moulded stiles, muntins and rails and glazing
to upper panels. Ornate leaded glazing in porch, right.
Interior: 9 and 6-panel doors with moulded stiles, muntins and
rails. (Pevsner and Hubbard).
