1822-41 by Benjamin Wyatt for the third Marquess of Londonderry. Interior gutted
by fire in 1841 and remodelled later, but original hall remains with coffered
barrelled ceiling and apsidal ends. Exterior also to original design. Ashlar,
two storeys. Entrance front has pedimented hexastyle Corinthian portico flanked
by three-bay sections and wide, one-bay projecting ends. Parapet with balustraded
panels, niches for statues, balustraded panels also to area walls. At right
former conservatory, now roofless, holds a swimming pool and outdoor sculpture
gallery. At left remodelling of older service wing to form residence. Garden
front of nine-bays flanked by three-window bows and one-storey ends. Fine
setting in park by lake.
