13/95 Stone Cottage

Farmhouse, now cottage. Mid or late C17. Whitewashed rubble walls, under
graduated greenslate roof with C20 chimney stack. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Plain
boarded door under double segmental-arched wooden lintel, within C17 gabled
stone porch with side seats and lamp recess. Blocked doorway to right of
porch. Fixed casement windows with glazing bars in plain reveals under wooden
lintels, that to ground-floor right a smaller firewindow. Slate dripmould over
ground-floor window left. Rear has glazed C20 door and sashes, some in original
openings and one in what could have been an upper-floor granary doorway.
Birthplace in 1817 of the dialect poet John Richardson. Adjoining barn now
converted to house called Piper House, the original name for Stone Cottage, is
not of interest.
