Description

FYLINGDALES TOMMY BAXTER STREET
NZ 9504 Robin Hood's Bay
19/222 (east side)

6.10.69 Beeston Cottage and
Auburn Cottage

GV II
Pair of houses. Early C19 appearance, but painted board with date 1652 may indicate
an earlier core. Finely-tooled coursed sandstone; pantiled roof. Each 2 storeys
and attic, 1 wide bay. Doors paired in centre, Beeston Cottage 4-panel, Auburn
Cottage C20 half-glazed. Beeston Cottage (at left) has 16-pane sash, with projecting
cill, on each floor; Auburn Cottage has plain sashes with projecting cills.
Both houses have been altered at the top. Originally both houses had an upper half-
storey with window just below eaves. These openings have been blocked and large
doormers added, 4-light at left and 3-light at right. Included for group value.
