House and cottage. Dated 1726 with C19 alterations.
For William Woodward. Coursed gritstone rubble.
Westmorland slate roof. Quoins. 2 storeys, 2 bays, with l-bay cottage to
left. House: central 6-panel door under C19 wooden porch. To right of door
- paired sashes with glazing bars, probably restored C20. Left - recessed
20-pane sash; blocked doorway to left again, with chamfered lintel incised,
'WW 1726' and decorated with 2 recessed panels to the lower part. First
floor: small double-chamfered single-light window above blocked doorway, and
2 large 16-pane sashes in stone surrounds to centre and right. Cottage: 6-
panel door, 16-pane sash to left, 4-pane sash above. Stacks to left end of
house and cottage. Interior: timber beams and post and panel partitions,
not seen at resurvey. The house and its history are described in detail by
E Moss in North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular Building Study Group
Report Number 133, March 1975.
