Black House Crafts

Pair of houses; northern (now subdivided) mid C18, no. 14 early C19. Northern
house rubble with roughly-tooled quoins and dressings, no. 14 squared stone with
cut quoins and dressings; Welsh slate roofs. Warden Cottage/Black House Crafts
2 storeys, 3 bays, irregular. Central pair of doors: Warden cottage has
renewed half-glazed door, with 3-pane overlight, in wooden doorcase under open-
pedimented hood; similar door to Black House Crafts with plain overlight, in
plaster rusticated surround with vermiculate keystone. Mid-C19 margined sashes
in older openings with tooled lintels, except for shop window on right with 2
basket-arched lights on moulded pilasters, under cornice on carved consoles and
brackets. End stacks. No. 14 to left 2 storeys, 2 bays. Renewed boarded door
with 4-pane overlight, in chamfered alternating-block surround in right bay,
with 12-pane sash window above. 16-pane sashes in left bay; all windows with
tooled lintels and slightly-projecting sills. Coped left gable with stepped-
and-banded end stack.
