Pair of houses. C17, altered mid-C19. Timber-framed with rendered infill on
rubble base and stone-tiled roof laid in diminishing courses with brick ridge
stack. Two plus two framed bays aligned north/south. Single storey and attic
with dormers. Framing: three rows of panels from sill to wall-plate, short
straight braces in some upper corners, collar and tie-beam truss with two
struts and V-strut above collar exposed at north end. East front elevation:
windows are C19 casements. The Old House has a 2-light window
and a single-light window beneath a continuous plank weathering and another
2-light window, also with a plank weathering, on the ground floor; there are
two gabled dormers with 2-light windows. Woodbine Cottage has a 2-light and
a 3-light window with plank weatherings and a gabled dormer with a 2-light
window. Both houses share a lean-to timber-framed C19 porch and have adjacent
C19 doors with stained glass panels. C19 and C20 additions at rear. (RCHM,
III, p 54, item 13).
