CHORLEY OLD ROAD (north side),
Building at Former Arcon Engineering approx. 40m north-east of Wallsuches House (q.v.)



Former factory building. Late C18. For Wallsuches Bleach Works.
Dressed stone with quoins and slate roof. Two storeys, seven
bays, the 6th and 7th bays project and are roofless (when surveyed).
Windows have narrow lintels and casements, those to 1st
floor with small panes, one ground-floor window is blocked.
Large round-headed archways to 2nd and 6th/7th bays.
Octagonal-faced clock in gabled dormer between 2nd and 3rd

Wallsuches Bleach Works, founded 1775, was one of the
first chemical bleach works in the country. A rare and early
example of a bleach works building.
