SS 53 NW MARWOOD MARWOOD VILLAGE

4/31 Marwood House (formerly listed
25.2.65 as Marwood Hill)

Large House c.1820. Stucco with hipped slate roof and 2 axial brick stacks barely
visible behind parapet with stone copings. 2 storeys with attic storey to front, 3
storeys to rear. Symmetrical square plan. 3 bays of tripartite windows with
timber side-sashes, 4 panes per sash to each side of timber sashes, 6 panes per
sash with glazing bars above plain plat-band. All sashes probably original.
Ground floor has two similar windows to each side of central bay which breaks back
slightly. Central porch supported on Doric columns with triangular pediment an
frieze and leaded roof. Doric pilasters to each side of ½ glazed 9-panel door with
3-panel sidelights. Deep moulded cornice with parapet above and three dormers with
hipped slate roofs visibly thrown forward. Entrance hall has large round arch
modillion cornice and to left a marble chimneypiece with fluted pilasters and
wreaths and human head with festoons between,Ornamental stairway with wreathed
handrail and stick balusters lit by large round-arched stair window to rear. First
floor not inspected.
