Description

BUCKLAND MONACHORUM BUCKLAND MONACHORUM
SX 46 NE
3/60 Nos. 11, 12 and 12a
21.3.67

GV II

2 cottages. Originally one house. Some C16 fabric much altered in C19. Rendered
stone rubble walls with gable ended asbestos slate roof (which is higher over right-
hand end). Rendered brick gable stack at left-hand end which formerly has oven
projecting from it. Lateral brick chimney shaft at rear and at right-hand end is
brick axial stack.
Originally likely to have had 3 room-and-through-passage plan - lower and inner room
heated by gable end stacks, position of hall stack unclear, may have been lateral.
C19 outshuts at rear. The building was re-fenestrated in C19, and probably at this
stage modernised internally and original features concealed or removed. No.11 is
probably a mid C19 extension.
2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window front, 12A to the left, 1st floor and ground floor
right-hand windows are circa later C191early C20 12 panel sashes horns. The 2
ground floor left-hand windows are C19 2 light casements with small panes, the left-
hand one has H-L hinges. To right of centre is C16 unchamfered granite doorway with
pointed arch; probably C20 part glazed door. No.11 is 1-window extension to right.
Interior not inspected but according to occupant no early features visible although
some may be concealed.
