With No 27 Upgate. Late mediaeval 3-storey timber-framed house with jettied
1st and 2nd floors front and back. Steep pitched modern tiled roof, central
multiple flue chimney stack. 1st floor is plaster covered and the central section
projects in line with the 2nd floor, which is covered in roughcast. Ground floor
has 2 shop fronts, the one to the right retains the form only of a late C18 bow,
With modern glazing. Left-hand shop window is C19. Top floor has 3 windows,
moulded architraves, one to right has glazing bars. Moulded wood eaves cornice.
On 1st floor, 2 3-light canted oriels, one to right with glazing bars. Centre
projects with one window in moulded architrave. There is a passageway through
the centre of the ground floor, and at one of the arches in this there is some
early moulded brick, viz 3 large sections purpose moulded. NMR. Graded for
its rarity in Louth, and for its relation with the church.
Nos 1 & 1A form a group with Nos 23 and 25 Upgate.
